Mindfulness

“Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment. We also gain access to our own powerful inner resources for insight, transformation, and healing.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn  PhD, founding Executive Director of the Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

In 2014 I integrated Mindfulness into my counselling practice after participating in the Professional Teacher Training, University of Bangor (Mindfulness research and practice)

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a mind-body approach to well being that can help change the way you perceive experiences thereby reducing stress and anxiety. In our fast paced modern world we are constantly bombarded with information deadlines and high expectation. We live under these pressures, however we can often cause ourselves extra stress by the unhelpful, habitual patterns of thinking which accompany our daily life. These kind of reactions tend to escalate and before we know it we are on a downward spiral of despair.

Mindfulness helps us deal with stressful situations by continually coming back to the present moment, our bodily sensations and our breath, the Now. So you may be still having to meet a deadline, stuck in a traffic jam and be inundated by emails but that is ALL. You don’t have to cope with all the unhelpful thoughts which increase our stress as well!

Mindfulness helps us to tap into our inner stillness it helps change our relationship to our problems, as Jon Kabat-Zinn says “ You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf”

MINDFULNESS COURSES

The 8 week course incorporates meditation ( formal practice) simple movement exercises and breathing. As we train our minds to change these unhelpful habitual thoughts and feelings we are then better able to manage them, mindfulness helps us to become more aware of our thoughts and feelings, therefore better able to manage them.

The 8 week stress reduction course is an amalgamation of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s programme he has been running for the last 30 years. Patients attend with conditions such as chronic pain, heart disease, stress and insomnia. NICE ( National Institute for Clinical Evidence) recommends mindfulness for people with recurrent depression (research Mark Williams et al). Mindfulness is also taken into other settings such as the workplace ( research Michael Chaskalson) and the benefits are increasingly recognised by large organisations such as eBay, Google Yahoo and Apple.

The 8 Week Course is once a week for two hours duration. You will receive a workbook, audio CD’s or MP3’s with guided meditations for you to practice at home and a certificate upon completion of 16 CPD hours.

The course costs £240.00 ( £30 x 8 weeks )…
